Hey Mike, I'm in the same boat as you are (corporate refugee, not able to convince close friends to risk their mortgages and family lives for a pie-in-the-sky that I'm dreaming up). So I guess the odds are against the "sole founder", but I'm still finding the process exhilirating, liberating and instructional to the core.

Rhetorically speaking, I think your circle of friends and contacts do see the importance of your idea, but probably do not feel brave enough to venture out and take the risks involved. Kids, mortgages, the seductive siren-song of the regular paycheck tend to keep people in their comfort zones.

Corporate cutlure attracts a certain type (or even "class") of individuals. IMO, most of the friendships/contacts one cultivates during a corporate tenure tend to be people who are very pragmatic and risk averse (and for good reason).

A certain amount of non-conformist entreprenuer types still slip under the corporate radar and find themselves in an interesting predicament (to say the least).

Good luck on your venture, and thanks for sharing your experiences with the world. Followed your link from the DHH's site, and I I'll be sure to keep an eye on your blog from now on.
